GREAT JUBILATION & EXCITEMENT AT THE NATIONAL PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE, INC. WITH THE SELECTION OF
MISS UNIVERSE 2006 ZULEYKA RIVERA MENDOZA

New York: Madelyn Lugo, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. announced that it is with great pride and joy that for the fifth time in the competitive history of the Miss Universe Pageant, its highest honor would, yet again, be bestowed upon a native of Puerto Rico; Ms. Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza.

With this triumph, the Board of Directors of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. will continue to comply with its mission to recognize the achievements and contributions made by thousands of Puerto Ricans throughout the world. "Puerto Rico has demonstrated that an island, although small in size; is enormous in its cultural, ethnic, and human contributions to the world", expressed Ms. Lugo.

In the near future, the Board of Directors will extend an official invitation to Miss Universe so that she may join them in the 2007 Parade in which they will be celebrating the 50 th Anniversary of parades in New York City. "Collectively through the Parade 2007, we will present a rich and positive experience with a showcase of our pride and the essence of our Puerto Rican culture along Fifth Avenue in New York City." finalized Mrs. Lugo.
